The domains included in the certificate are most often validated by email. A validation email is sent to five email addresses associated with the domain: admin@, administrator@, webmaster@, hostmaster@ and postmaster@. The certificate requester must have access to at least one of these e-mail addresses, in order to confirm the order of the certificate.
If no e-mail address is activated on the domain, you can choose another validation method for your website: the DNS record (DNS record) or the txt file to upload to the domain FTP.
Our range of domain validation certificates:
- GeoTrust QuickSSL Premium
- GeoTrust QuickSSL Premium Wildcard
- RapidSSL
- RapidSSL Wildcard
- GeoTrust Standard DV
- GeoTrust Wildcard DV
What is email verification?
The verification e-mail is sent to the preselected domain e-mail addresses (admin@, administrator@, webmaster@, hostmaster@ and postmaster@) directly by the certification authority.
The verification email contains a link to the certification authority’s website. By clicking on ” I Approve “, you confirm your order and you are recognized as the owner of the domain.
Note: since the date of entry into force of the European Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the owner’s data has been masked for practically all areas. In addition, manual control of the owner’s data by the certification authorities is not possible. For this reason, we can no longer offer the possibility of domain authentication by email from the domain owner.
If you have not received the confirmation email for your order (also check the Spam and Spam folder), contact us.
Alternative verification
If no email addresses are available for the domain, you can choose an alternative method.
Creating a single record in the domain’s DNS
For this type of domain verification, you must create the TXT record in the DNS zone of the domain verified. Connect to your domain host, access the domain management menu where you can add or modify the DNS records and add the TXT record for the _dnsauth subdomain.
The data to be added to the DNS records is unique for each certificate.
To find out what data to add to the DNS records, display the details of the order in your customer administration.
The authority automatically and regularly checks the presence and content of the TXT record. If this is correct, the order will be automatically confirmed and the certificate issued.
Txt file to upload to your site’s FTP
The fileauth.txt file to use can be found in the order details for the SSL / TLS certificate. The content is unique for each order. Save this file on FTP of your site, in the folder /.well-known/pki-validation/ and then check, if the data are accessible to the public and that they are not limited for example by the file .htaccess.
The FTP file must be accessible to the public
The certification authority automatically checks the presence and content of the file at regular intervals. Once the file is found, the authority confirms the order and the certificate can be issued.
The verification process is completed after manual verification (verification email) or automatic verification (DNS registration and FTP file). The issued SSL / TLS certificate is then sent to the technical contact e-mail address, or it is always available in your customer administration.
